If you're up there, two things help enormously: a gate code sent ahead of time, and a note about which side of the street you're on. We'd rather ask than circle the block twice.

The Ventura Boulevard high-rises — the condo towers and the buildings around Encino Terrace — are straightforward as long as you meet your driver in the lobby. Most have a front desk or a locked vestibule, and drivers can't be buzzed up with a controlled product. Lobby, ID, thirty seconds, done.

On traffic: the 101 through Encino is the choke point. It slows at Balboa in both directions from about 3:30pm and doesn't really clear until after 7. Ventura Blvd itself backs up around White Oak and Balboa at the same hours. Orders placed before 3pm or after 7:30pm land fastest. Friday and Saturday evenings run 60 to 75 minutes and we'll tell you that upfront rather than pretend otherwise.
